How do I become a patron?

Use our sign up form here.

Once we've received your information, we'll create an account for you in our online catalog through Libib. You'll also receive a welcome email which will include your patron barcode and info on how to access your account. Please give us 2-3 business days to get your account set up. If you haven't heard from us after that point, send us an email at kc.litc@proton.me or fill out our contact form.

How do I access my account?

Once we've got you added, we'll send you a welcome email which includes your patron barcode and a libib how to guide. You can also view the guide here.

How do I return?

We do not have any due dates or a standard returning policy. That said, when you're done with an item, there a few options.
You can:

  • Drop off the next time you see us tabling
  • Return at our shelf at Whiskers Cat Cafe (3705 Southwest Trfy, Kansas City, MO 64111)
  • Email us at kc.litc@proton.me to set up an in person return time
  • Hand it off to a friend! We want our resources to help build community and we think the best way to do this is handed from person to person! If you don't want an item you handed off on your account, send us an email and we'll move it to our ‘community card' or we can make an account for your friend!

Do you have fees?

Nope! We are a completely free community resource. No late fees, no fines.

How do I get involved?

  • You can join our discord. Talk about what you're currently reading/watching, start a discussion about how our collection is organized, share local resources, etc.
  • Attend a meeting. Send us an email saying you're interested and we can notify you about upcoming meeting times.
  • Donate items! You can donate anytime we are tabling or you can email us to coordinate a pick up time.

I'm a community organization with my own library - how can we work together?

We would love to figure out how to pool resources. We can:

  • Add your group's library as a separate collection in our catalog. For example, we've worked with FPKC to include their library in our catalog. This allows us to share the labor of lending and adding materials while also bringing resources to both of our communities!
  • Show you how we set up our catalog in Libib to help you start your own independent collection.
  • Meet and discuss alternative ideas! Send us an email at kc.litc@proton.me or fill out our contact form.

What is Libib?

Libib is a library management web app which allows you to create your own online catalog through their pre-formatted digital interface. We chose libib to host our online catalog because it was low cost, easy to use, and adaptable to our collection needs.

Something is incorrect, formatted weirdly, or needs updating in the online catalog. How do I notify you?

You can email us at kc.litc@proton.me or fill out our contact form about any collection concerns. We also have a channel on our discord specifically for tagging discourse!

Is there a tag that doesn't sit right? Is something missing translation info? Is a book's blurb weirdly formatted? We want to know!

We want your input especially if the way something is catalogued is racist, homophobic, ableist, or in anyway upholding colonizer language. The catalog is a living and breathing structure. The goal is for it to adapt and change with our community. Just like the materials we have, we want the way our collection is catalogued to dismantle binaries, question colonial systems, challenge whiteness, and invite critical thought.

How can I request to have an item added?

You can submit a request through our contact form or let us know in our collection channel on the discord! We'll do our best to accommodate any requests.

How do I donate items?

You can send us an email at kc.litc@proton.me to coordinate a pick up time or you can drop off any time we're tabling. If you're donating at an event, please keep your donation to 2-3 bags or boxes.

Our collection is focused on queer, trans, and liberation-focused media. If you're unsure whether or not your items fit in with our collection, just reach out!

We reserve the right to resell any items donated to support our collection development efforts.
