Kansas City Literary Collective (KCLitC) is queer, trans, and liberation-focused. Our primary focus is to de-privatize our personal libraries and curate an accessible shared collection for local communities. We strive to promote media literacy. This includes sharing physical media, fighting censorship, and building community. We do this with a catalogued collection on Libib for anyone to borrow from, tabling at local KC events, and curated media recommendations.
KCLitC was first created by a group of queer and trans bookstore union workers, librarians, and artists. We acknowledge this type of collective is not new, historically or currently, in the Kansas City area. It is our intention that KCLitC recognizes, and works in tandem with, other KC community organizations. We will direct people to other resources if we are not able to fulfill specific needs. We are committed to expanding while self-criticizing to better reflect our community.
